MataHari convenes quarterly popular education forums in-depth dialogue for ways in which we, individually and in community, can hold ourselves and our communities accountable for injustices of internalized and institutional racism, heterosexism, classism, xenophobia, partner and sexual violence and exploitation as it occurs within our communities of color, immigrant communities and within our social justice organizations. MataHari has created these safely and carefully facilitated spaces for community members to unpack oppression together for close to seven years, starting out as monthly forums for our first five years (2002 – 2007) and evolving into larger quarterly forums in the past two years (2009-2011). These forums support deeper analysis and skills building to practice, learn and internalize tools for liberation and transformative justice. Community members draw courage & strength to give voice, create safety and healing in our communities as an integral and necessary part of the social justice work we do.
